Bernie G. McNamara

Bernie G. McNamara, 91, of Hickory, passed away Monday, June 1, 2026, in the loving arms of his wife, Lana. Born July 17, 1934, he was the son of the late Roy McNamara and Eva Wildes McNamara.

There were six boys in the McNamara family, five of whom predeceased Bernie: Donald, Jim, Bob, Richard, and Stan.

Bernie was a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force and graduated from Mankato State University in Minnesota, where he was a football standout. All of the brothers were great competitive athletes, and Bernie especially excelled in racquetball, tennis, basketball, and football.

Bernie was a born salesman. He spent 50 years in wholesale jewelry and worked for numerous companies, though the dearest to his heart was Jewelry Exchange Kellee Designs. He met Lana on a sales call at Jewelry Exchange, and from there they shared 35 wonderful years together. Lana extends heartfelt thanks to Jewelry Exchange for allowing Bernie to continue working until he was 88, both on the road and from home until his passing.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Lana, who was his devoted caregiver for the last three years; his daughters, Linda McNamara, Lori Glover, and Meghan McNamara Cummings (Jack); his stepson, Jason Drum (Deb); his grandchildren, Emily, Annie, Michael, and step-granddaughter, Mollie Pallo; his great-grandchildren, Olivia, Scarlett, and Scout; a special nephew, Jimmy McNamara; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loyal customers and friends.

Per Bernie’s wishes, no services will be held. Cards are welcome, and friends may stop by to visit and pay their respects to Lana and the family at 1772 12th Street NE, Hickory, NC, in Huntington Woods Townhomes.
