Betty Giles

Betty Ann Bumgarner Giles, 98, of Hickory, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024. Born on April 19, 1926, she was the daughter of General Lee Bumgarner and Lottie Ann Smith Bumgarner.

Betty was a dedicated worker at Longwear Hosiery Mill; she was known for being hardworking and simply tough. She was an independent and tough spirit, who quickly adapted to anything life threw at her. Above all, she was a loving mother who cherished her son, Gary Giles, and their bond was truly special.

She is survived by her son, Gary Giles (Robin) of Hickory; her nieces and nephews Steve Wright, Amy Cook, Donna Ferguson, and Lisa Dryer; and her precious fur grandbaby, Nugget.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Giles; her sister, Faye Wright; and her two brothers, Leonard Bumgarner and Ray Bumgarner.

The family will hold a viewing and time for visitation on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM at Caring Cremations, 609 Highland Ave SE, Hickory, NC 28602. A graveside service and burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
