Bobby Lee Sweeney

June 4, 1940 — August 31, 2025

Salisbury

Bobby Lee Sweeney, 85, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 4, 1940, near Pax, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Harry and Carrie Sweeney. He graduated from Mt. Hope High School in 1958. Over the years, Bobby made many lifelong friends as a car salesman, and together with his wife, Arleatha, he proudly owned and operated Sweeney’s Auto Sales in Oak Hill, WV, for more than 20 years.

Bobby was an avid hunter and a devoted WVU Mountaineers fan. He was rarely seen without something blue and gold on, and his family joked that he “stuck around to see how the ’Eers were going to look this year.” Fittingly, he was able to watch the Mountaineers’ season opener from his hospital bed on August 30th.

Above all, Bobby was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who dearly loved his family.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Arleatha Sweeney of the home; his sons, Robert (Kathy) of Nokomis, FL, and David (Lisa) of Cleveland, NC; his grandson, Ryan Jones of Santa Barbara, CA; his granddaughters, Courtney Meece (Clint), who will soon welcome his first great-granddaughter, Baker, in November, Logan Sweeney of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Addie Sweeney of Pembroke, NC; and his step-grandchildren, Haley Triche (Denny) and their son Eli of Winston-Salem, NC, Alex Lucas, and Ella Beth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Launia, and her husband, Fred Blackburn, and their son, Freddy of Beckley, WV.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
