Brenda Ekard

Brenda Hubbard Poole Ekard, 77, of Hickory passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Carolina Caring Catawba Valley Hospice House. Born October 25th, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Johnny Shook and Mary Josephine Shook. She retired from UPS after 30+ years of service. Brenda loved to travel, tend to her garden, and spend time with family. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 9 years, Tommy Ekard of Hickory, NC; a daughter Sandy Pierce Oliver (Steve Glymph) of Powhatan, VA; a son Jerry Hubbard (Dana) of Hickory, NC; four step-daughters Teresa Killian (Mark) of Hickory, NC, Michelle Cook ( Jimmy) of Hickory, NC, Kisa McMillan (Eric) of Hickory, NC, and Kim Haddock (Chris) of Fayetteville, NC; a step-son Kenneth Poole of Hickory, NC; a sister Kathy Shook (Steve Canipe) of Hudson, NC; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her furbaby Cooper.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother Allen Shook; her first husband Buster Hubbard; and her second husband David Poole.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Lakeview Baptist Church in Hickory.
