Brenda Johnson

Brenda Joyce “Jo” Haynes Johnson, 75, of Sawmills passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Born November 6th, 1948 she was the daughter of the late Arthur Guy Haynes Sr. and Helen Pritchard Haynes.

Brenda, who was known as Jo to friends and family, fought valiantly during her last days and was comfortable that whatever her fate, it was God’s will. Sadly, in the end, her little body simply could not fight anymore despite the heroic efforts of her doctors and medical staff.

Her love of the beach, Sun Drop, and Pyramid cigarettes was eclipsed only by her love and devotion to her God, her family, and her friends.

Jo was happiest spending time with her grandchildren (even the four-legged ones), taking long drives, and basking in the sun. Her laugh was joyous and her sense of humor pointed.

She was a member of Freedom Independent Baptist Church and was a long-time employee of McCreary Modern where she was blessed with many friends who lovingly referred to her as “Mawmaw”.

She is survived by her two children Shane Johnson (Christian) of Asheville, NC and Jodi Eggers (Matthew) of Sawmills, NC; two grandchildren Braxton Eggers and Rylee McManus; a sister Penny Bumgarner (Bob); and two brothers Dennis Haynes and Donald Haynes (Laura).

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers Arthur Guy "Dick" Haynes Jr., Ricky Haynes, and Tim Haynes.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Caring Cremations Life Celebrations and Funerals, 609 Highland Ave SE, Hickory, NC 28602.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the following GoFundMe to address medical expenses and to the benefit of Jo’s granddaughter Rylee’s college fund.
