Charles Ray Kirby, 70, of Hickory, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026, at his home. Born October 26, 1955, he was the son of the late Vance Astor Kirby and Norma Alice Kirby.
He was a wonderful husband, a devoted father, and a loving Papaw. A good and loyal friend to many, Charles was caring, witty, and full of humor, bringing light to those around him. He was also a great cook who loved preparing meals for any occasion, whether it was a backyard cookout or Thanksgiving with family.
Charles was a devoted member of Discovery Church, where his heart for serving others was evident to all who knew him. A brave and faithful servant of Christ, he lived as an example of integrity, strength, and unwavering faith. His courageous battle with cancer inspired many and reflected his deep trust in the Lord.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Vickie W. Kirby; his children, Scott Propst (Morgan) and Kristin Propst; his grandchildren, Kaden Peterson and Jackson Propst; his siblings, Allen Kirby (Debbie) and Beth K. Furman (Lowell); his sister-in-law, Kim Davis Stokes; and his nephews, Taylor Furman and Tyler Stokes.
A Celebration of Life will be planned later this year in honor of his birthday.
