Charlotte "Mickie" Smith Church, 89, of Hickory, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 1, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Garland Smith and Arleen Winbarger Smith.
Mickie had a deep love for her Lord and Savior, her children, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished her many friends and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed; she never met a stranger.
She loved traveling with her husband, Lewis, and their family, with Cancun being a favorite destination—they visited 20 times! She and Lewis even had two honeymoons-family-moon with two of their grandchildren. Family was always at the heart of her life, and she and Lewis were included in every adventure. Mickie was also an avid reader and had a passion for shopping.
She was survived by her devoted husband of 33 years, Glenn Lewis Church; two daughters, Cheryl S. Lingerfelt (Gary) of Hickory and Kimberly Ward (Steven) of Granite Falls; two sisters, Patsy Berry and April Ogle (Van); two brothers, Bill Smith (Marleen) and Clyde Smith (Jean); two brothers-in-law Albert Ward and Ben Abee; four grandchildren, Joshua Eckard (Angie), Ashley S. Daigler (Brian), Tommie "Trey" Simpson III (Sadie), and Cherish S. Robinson (Steven); great-grandchildren Stella Adair LaRose, Katelynn Marie, Eckard, Tommie S. Simpson IV, Penelope Grace Robinson, Oliver Dale Robinson, and Zachary Daigler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Ward and Gayree Abee; and a brother, Gerald Smith.
Mickie will be deeply missed by those who loved her, but we find comfort knowing she is finally home.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date.
