Dixie Ann Parsons

Dec 22, 1941 — Jun 9, 2026

Dixie Ann Hurt Parsons, 84, of Hickory, NC, fell asleep in death on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

Dixie was born on December 22, 1941, in Elkin, NC. She was the daughter of the late Ralph Hurt Sr. and Bertha Irene Scales Hurt.

For over 19 years, Dixie lovingly opened her home as a daycare to babysit countless children. She nurtured, encouraged, protected, and loved the children entrusted to her care as though they were her own. She had a warm heart, gentle spirit, and inviting kindness. Later, she was employed at ServPro, where she worked for over 10 years cleaning. While employed there, she won employee of the month numerous times, was well respected by her co-workers, and loved by many clients.

Dixie found joy in life’s simple and beautiful gifts. She loved animals (favorite was koala bears), reading, gardening, working crossword puzzles, word searches, waterfalls, and spending time at the beach and mountains. She especially enjoyed traveling with her family and visiting aquariums and zoos, where she delighted in observing the wonders of God’s creation.

Dixie treasured her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother. One of her greatest joys came from spending time with loved ones and watching her family grow through the many generations.

What truly grounded Dixie’s life was her deep and abiding faith. On July 22, 1972, she dedicated her life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She had an unwavering love for Jehovah and a heartfelt belief in the resurrection hope promised at Revelation 21:4. Her confidence in that hope was not merely something she believed, it was something she lived. Whenever there were overwhelming circumstances, she would lovingly say, & “I have the hope of the resurrection!” Those words reflected the strength of her faith and the comfort she found in Jehovah’s promises. Her confidence in the resurrection hope brought her peace, courage, and joy throughout her life and continues to inspire those who loved her.

Dixie shared a beautiful love story with her beloved husband, David Parsons Jr, and was privileged to enjoy a marriage of over 63 years full of love. Together they built a home filled with faith, laughter, and cherished memories.

Dixie is preceded in death by her brother Ralph “June” Hurt Jr and sister Mary Hurt Hunt. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, David Parsons Jr; their four children, Mark T. Parsons, Kecia P. Dover (husband Edward), Denica P. Thomas (husband Erik), and David Bradley Parsons; eight grandchildren, Marcus Parsons (wife Kim), David “Bradley” Parsons Jr., Assante’ Millsaps (husband Trent), Zamira Dover, Tatyana Thomas, Alexis Parsons, Talaya Thomas, and David Bradley Parsons Jr II; and her great-grandchildren, Zoie, Braiden, Elijah, Greylyn, Serenity, Zaia.

Dixie is further survived by her three sisters, Kathleen Whittington (husband Joe), Deborah Dobson (husband Teddy), Gwen Cockerham (husband Calvin), and one brother, Richard “Rickey” Hurt, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and all the children whose lives she touched over the years.
