In Loving Memory of Donald “Don” Ellis Clark

Don Clark, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was called home to be with the Lord on March 2nd, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Memphis, TN, he made Raleigh, NC, his home in 1985, where he built a life filled with love, adventure, and deep devotion to family. A strong and selfless man, his family always came first. He was not only a dedicated father to his children, Todd Clark and Trina Smith, but also a father figure to many in his extended family, including his daughter in law, April Clark, and his son in law, Jeff Smith. He adored his grandchildren, Caylea Clark, Clark Smith, and Colton Smith, and his love for them was immeasurable. He is also survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Barbara Clark, his sister, Dottie Ford, and countless other family members and friends whose lives he touched.

Fishing was his greatest pastime, and nothing made him happier than being out on the water. His favorite fishing spot was the Shark Hole, where he spent countless hours casting his line, soaking in the peace of the open water, and sharing stories with family and friends. He also loved teaching others to water ski, ensuring that every niece, nephew, and his children's friends who spent time at the lake left with a new skill and unforgettable memories.

After retiring from Golden Corral in 2007, he and Barbara moved to the coast, where he embraced the slower pace of life and picked up a new hobby—golf. Whether it was a beautiful morning on the course with the Golden Boys or playing a round with his grandchildren, those moments brought him so much joy. Teaching them the game and sharing laughs along the way made for some of his most cherished memories. Don was also a fierce poker player. He shared his love of the game with his grandchildren—though no one could ever quite beat him.

Together, he and Barbara traveled the world, exploring every continent and immersing themselves in new cultures. He was always up for an adventure, whether near or far. A true-blue Tar Heel, he loved all things Carolina, with the Tennessee Volunteers holding a close second. In his final year, he moved to Lake Hickory to be closer to family, continuing his lifelong legacy of kindness and generosity. He was always the first to lend a helping hand, whether mentoring at work, supporting his neighbors, or offering wisdom to those who needed it.

While our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing that the Lord called him home, where he is now at rest. His love, laughter, and unwavering support will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of Don's favorite charities in his honor: Alzheimer's Research Foundation (https://www.alzheimersresearchfoundation.com), St Jude's (https://www.stjude.org/give.html), and Tunnel to Towers Foundation (https://t2t.org).
