Jerry Lee Poovey

Jerry Lee Poovey, 85, of Conover, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Lenoir Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born March 16, 1941, he was the son of the late Theodore William Poovey and Virginia Jones Smith.

Jerry was an avid Duke basketball and Carolina Panthers fan. He enjoyed spending time with family, eating at Dicks Café, spoiling his dog Gus, and participating in the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Jerry was a blunt but generous person who would help anyone he could, without hesitation.

He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Poovey (Bob Matthew) of Conover; his grandsons, Cole Poovey (Kayla Kaylor) of Hickory and Dylan Landis of Conover; his aunt, Sophie Dellinger of Catawba; his nephews, Glenn Poovey (Shanda) of Denver and Derrick Poovey of Newton; and his sister-in-law, Darlene Poovey of Newton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William "Bill" Poovey, and his son, Tim Poovey.
