John Beretsky

September 9, 1946 — June 7, 2022

John Anthony Beretsky, “Poppy”, 75, of Hickory passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 7, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born September 9, 1946 in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of John Babiak and Marie Ferns. John was a man who lived his life full of humor and silly antics. He never met a stranger and if you stayed around long enough, you would probably earn yourself a nickname. Although he was always the life of the party and knew how to keep people laughing, John was a deeply emotional man. He could be very serious when he needed to be but usually followed it up with a joke because he loved to hear people laugh. He loved his family and friends so well and would give anyone the shirt off his back. Adults loved him because he was always so much fun to be around and children loved him because he was a grown man with the heart of a child. The legacy John leaves behind is a very unique one full of beautiful memories. If John taught us anything it was that with each new day we are given, it should be lived like our last one.

He is survived by two daughters Lisa Somers (Michael) of Granite Falls, NC and Kim Osburn (Grant) of Murfreesboro, TN; 3 grandchildren Avery Osburn, Syrus Osburn, and Kimber Somers; his loving companion Rebekah Ring of Hickory; and his French Bulldog, Lyla, who was his baby girl.

The family is planning to have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
