John Charles Gilbert, 51, of Lenoir, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born on September 18, 1973, he was the beloved son of John Charles Gilbert Sr. and Joy Lynn Edens Cassidy.
He is survived by his spouse Amy Sue Gilbert of Lenoir NC; his three daughters Jasmin Preston (Keith) of Bowling Green, OH, Sara Ann Hill (Nathaniel Hill) of Lenoir, NC, and Lena Marie Gilbert (fiancée Robert Peppers) of Weston, OH; his four grandchildren Dakota Preston, Ahriana Preston, Luna Hill, and Faith Preston; his mother Joy Cassidy and stepfather Benjamin Cassidy of Belton, TX; his father John Gilbert Sr. and stepmother Jean Gilbert of Oregon, OH; the mother of his children Kristina Ann Rubel (Josh) of Bowling Green, OH; and his younger brother William Michael Gilbert of Toledo, OH.
John was a man of many passions and talents. He enjoyed 3D printing, online gaming, listening to audiobooks, building computers, and attending comic conventions. His creativity and enthusiasm for life were infectious, inspiring those around him to explore their own passions.
John's family remembers him with love and admiration. He was a source of joy and strength to his loved ones, always ready with a kind gesture, a listening ear, or a shared adventure.
His youngest daughter, Lena, fondly recalls the joy he found in playing Monopoly: "He was so happy, grinning ear to ear. He got so excited."
His grandchildren held him close to their hearts. Six-year-old Ahriana treasures the memory of the Jack skeleton that her grandpa gave her, and ten-year-old Dakota lovingly calls him "his knight." Luna, just five, shared, "He helped me touch the stars."
John's daughters cherished their time with him. Sara, his middle daughter, remembers how he always seemed to know when she needed him, "even before I did." Jasmin, his oldest daughter, remembers her favorite memory with her dad of the week-long trip to Cedar Point, where John swam with them and enjoyed every ride: "It was fun."
John's younger brother, William, recalls always being able to count on him for help when it was needed. His father and stepmother, John and Jean Gilbert, expressed their gratitude for his generosity and deep memory, saying, "We only hope he knew how much we loved him. I'll miss talking to him so very much."
His widow, Amy, shared, "He never gave up on me," a testament to his steadfast love and unwavering support.
John's legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he created. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
