Jonathan "Chad" Ward

February 5, 1968 — September 28, 2025

Jonathan "Chad" Ward, 57, of Hickory, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025, at his home. Born February 5, 1968, he was the son of the late James Carroll Ward and Sara Burns Causey.

Chad was a loving father, dedicated husband, and loyal friend. A man of simple joys, he found great happiness in the things that brought him closer to nature and those he loved. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Dodgers, always cheering passionately for his teams, whether from the comfort of his living room or among friends. When he wasn’t cheering on his teams, you could often find him camping, fishing, or spending time on the lake, where he found peace and happiness in the great outdoors. His love for marksmanship, knives, and the thrill of a good adventure were also trademarks of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Deven Ward; his daughter, Logan Ward of Hickory; his son, Mitchell Ward of Hickory; his stepdaughters, Jessica Deal and Brandi Mutz of Hickory; and his grandchildren, Uriah, Sutter, Mazarin, and Vesper Whittington of Hickory; and his cousin Carla Cooper Gibson of Hickory.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary and Delmar Burns.

In his honor, an intimate memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 5725 Kyle Lane, Granite Falls, NC, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM where we will celebrate his life, share stories, and remember the man who made our lives richer with his presence.
