Judy Yvonne Garland

Judy Yvonne Hedrick Garland, 72, of Catawba, NC, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at Catawba Valley Medical Center surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on July 16, 1953, in Catawba County, Judy was the daughter of the late Guy Henry Hedrick and Florence Rebecca Stallings of Conover, NC. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was defined by love, selflessness, and quiet strength.

Judy married the love of her life, Richard Stanley Garland, on December 24, 1972. Together, they built a life centered on family. She is survived by their three children: Richard Shane Garland, Sonya Nichole Garland, and Jason Scott Garland (Staysha). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Katlyn (Matt), Myranda, Brandon, Grayson, Zayne, Alanna, Izaha, and Alora, and a great-grandmother to Colton.

Judy worked for many years as a Dietary Aide at Abernethy Laurels Senior Living, where she touched the lives of residents and co-workers alike with her kindness and care. Outside of work, she found joy in music—especially Elvis Presley—and had a natural green thumb for nurturing her houseplants. Her true passion, however, was her family. She loved cooking and hosting family gatherings, where her warmth and generosity were felt by everyone at the table. Judy was known for always putting the needs of her children and loved ones before her own.

She also shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Sissy, who brought her companionship and comfort through the years.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Wilma (Faye), Henry (Bud), Bonnie, and Guy Albert. She is survived by her sisters Mary Ann and Rebecca (Becky), along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Judy’s legacy of love and devotion lives on in those she leaves behind. Her unwavering care and fierce dedication to her family will never be forgotten.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM in the Celebration Center of Jenkins Funeral Home, 4081 Startown Road, Newton, NC 28658. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel. Burial will take place at Catawba Memorial Park following the service, 3060 US Highway 70 SW, Hickory, NC 28602.
