Kenneth "Kenny" Walter Smith

Kenneth Walter Smith, 58, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born January 7th, 1967, he was the son of Larry Walter Smith and Gladys Victoria Snipes Smith. He taught at Samurai Institute LLC and dedicated over 40 years of his life to martial arts. He was also a proud Mason of Riverside Lodge, always ready to lend a hand wherever one was needed. Known as the best dad and pawpaw, he never met a stranger and carried a boundless love for his family. A beloved son, brother, husband, dad, and grandfather, he touched the lives of many and leaves behind countless friends who will cherish his memory.

He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Meloney Smith of Hickory; his children and grandchildren, Piper Smith, Gage Smith, Adam Summerlin, Jessie Greene, Haley Christopher, and Maikoh Summerlin; his parents, Gladys Smith and Larry W. Smith of Hickory; and his sister, Crystal Crafton (Bobby) of Claremont.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Kenneth's martial arts school, Samurai Institute LLC, 919 8th Ave NE, Suite 103, Hickory, NC.
