Lannie Ellison

Janis Laneth “Lannie” Ellison of Hildebran, NC passed away the morning of November 25, 2021, at the age of 74.

Lannie was born in Hickory, NC on April 23, 1947, to the late John C. Sides, Jr. and Alma “Amy” Sides.

Lannie attended Hildebran High School where she was the associate editor of the yearbook and a cheerleader. She graduated in 1965 and enrolled in UNC-Greensboro, earning a BA in Sociology. For years Lannie lived in Manassas, VA where she worked for the Department of Social Services for Prince William County and raised her family. She remained a steadfast Tar Heels fan her entire life.

Active with Phoenix Landing and Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, Lannie’s love of birds was a huge part of her life and greatest passion, and a trip to Costa Rica to see many species of birds in their natural habitat was a highlight of her experiences. She also volunteered at Carolina Caring Hospice in Catawba.

Lannie is survived by her son Jason R. Ellison (Madeleine) and grandson Sebastian Ellison of Asheville, NC; her daughter, Erin Laneth Ellison, of Asheville, NC; brothers John C. Sides III of Hildebran, NC and Robert F. Sides of Kernersville, NC; sister Leslie S. Corley (Darryl) of Connelly Springs, NC; and nephew Caleb Corley and niece Sophia Sides.

An informal gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday December 5 at the Barn at Wildwood Acres from 2-4 pm with optional speakers from 3:30-4. Please wear a mask.
