Laura Ann Young, 61, of Hickory, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Born Tuesday, July 21, 1964, she was the daughter of William Harrison Whiteside Sr. and Shirley Whiteside.

Laura was always there for her children, supporting them in every way. She was the best mom anyone could ask for and gave up so much to care for her family. Those who knew Laura knew she was funny, always smiling, a little spicy, and a true spitfire until the very end. She loved reading and puzzles, and you could always find her watching the Food Network.

Survivors include her three children: James Young (Shelby) of Schenectady, New York; Sunnee Young of Morganton; and Laura Young of Hickory; three grandchildren: Akari Young, Johnny Lynch, and Nerina Young; and her brother, William Whiteside of Burnsville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Gordon Young Sr.; her father, William Harrison Whiteside Sr.; and her sister, Kimberly Whiteside.
