Loretta M. (Cooper) Lilly, 79, formerly of Hico, WV passed away Friday, December 15, 2023, at her residence in Hickory, North Carolina. She was born April 9, 1944, in Stevenson, West Virginia: She was the daughter of the late Edward and Opal (Wood) Cooper.
Loretta loved spending time with family and her many friends. Loretta had owned and operated her own beauty Salon "New Image" located in Beckley, West Virginia. Loretta had many interests. She was a blue-ribbon-winning quilter, she enjoyed making ceramic crafts, baking and decorating cakes and cookies, Hunting, attending NASCAR races, and of course cheering on Her beloved West Virginia Mountaineer sporting teams. Loretta would passionately tell you about one of her many trips that she took with her husband James Lilly.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a sister Marlene Watson; and four brothers Eugine Cooper, Frankie Cooper, Curtis Cooper, and Leon Cooper.
Loretta is survived by her husband of 63 years James Lilly; two sons, Jim (Shelia) Lilly, of Loogootee, IN, Wayne (Jenny) Lilly of Hickory, NC; three granddaughters Sara (Derek) Lengacher of Odon, IN, Amber (Ken) Knepp of Bramble, IN, and Sierra Kate Lilly of Hickory, NC; two sisters Louise Hertzog of Amherst, VA and Margarette Thompson of Hico, WV; five brothers, David Cooper of Cleveland, OH, Hubert Cooper of Beckley, WV, Kenneth Cooper of Cleveland, OH, Larry (Jane) Cooper of Cleveland, OH, Roger (Mary) Cooper of Beaver, WV; a sister-in-law, Jane Cooper of Fayetteville, WV; a brother-in-law. Larry Watson of Mannington, WV; five great-grandchildren Hannah, Addy, Brooklyn, Jackson, and Ava; as well as many nieces and nephews; and her caretaker and friend, Natalia Lapizki.
A private family burial will take place at the Cooper family cemetery located in Odd, West Virginia, on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11:00 AM. A Celebration of Life service will follow at The Gospel Chapel on 1134 C and O Road, Daniels, West Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideon Internation.
