Mary Hovis

April 29, 1949 — May 15, 2024

Mary Kandace Hovis, 75, of Hickory passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Carolina Caring Catawba Valley Hospice House. Born April 29th, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Ellison and Gaye McGrady Ellison.

Mary was a woman of many passions and talents. She had a deep love for reading and found joy in the world of art. She enjoyed cooking and her knack for decorating made her home a warm and inviting haven for family and friends. She also found great pleasure in birdwatching, her favorite feathered friend being the Cardinal.

Mary’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her kindness, creativity, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her three children Shane Mangus (Stephanie) and their daughter, Ellie, Erin Mangus, and Adam Willis (Meredith); a brother Bobby Ellison (Pam) and their children Katie Bader and Joseph Ellison.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Tom Hovis.

The Celebration of Life will be 1:00-3:00 PM, with a time to share and Pastor Helton speaking at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Caring Cremations, 609 Highland Ave SE, Hickory, NC 28602.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Carolina Caring at 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
