Mildred Mae Smith Workman, 74, of Hickory passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024 at her home. Born November 12th, 1949 she was the daughter of the late Chester Arthur Smith and Lillie Mae Walker Smith.
Mildred's home was a sanctuary for many. With a heart of gold, she was always ready to extend a helping hand to anyone in need, embodying the nurturing spirit of someone who was truly like a mom to everyone. Her pot roast was legendary, drawing friends and family alike to her table where countless cherished memories were created over delicious meals. Her love for life was reflected in her hobbies; she was often found out on the lake with her family, enjoying her time in their presence. Whether it was camping under the stars or the simple pleasure of feeding the birds, Mildred cherished every moment spent in the embrace of nature. The beach was a special place for her, a blend of her affection for the water and the outdoors. Mildred loved animals and they were as much a part of her family as her children and grandchildren. Her gentle care and love for all creatures will be fondly remembered by those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Workman; a daughter Misty Stephens (Wade); a son Raymond Cunnigham; a sister Shirley Harman (Bob); a brother Reid Smith (Shirley); four grandchildren Anthony Lail, Aaron Matthews, Sierra Stephens, and Keira Stephens; and two great-grandchildren Charlotte Lail and Anthony Lail Jr.
