Rick Herman
November 30, 1958 — July 29, 2023
Rick Herman passed away July 29th, 2023 following a long battle with multiple health issues. He is survived by one daughter, Whitney Herman, and two grandchildren, Grayson and Chase of Dallas ,Texas. He is also survived by a sister, Pandy Warner, of San Diego, California and a brother, Rob Herman, of Hickory. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel B. Herman and Betty Jean Herman.
Rick attended East Burke High school where he played football and tortured his teachers. He later attended BYU, where he went to the gym instead of class. His interest in entrepreneurship led him to own and manage several businesses and was his occupational focus until the end of his life.
After moving to Dallas, Texas, he met and married Sherrie Maynard. Together they owned and operated The Herman Group, a successful consulting firm. He later owned Landscape Lighting in Dallas and was in management at Audi of Dallas and other car dealerships.
Rick was larger than life. He lived his life with gusto and used laughter as his coping tool. His laugh was infectious and people were naturally drawn to his wit and his humor. He was the center of any gathering and made friends everywhere he went. Many remained friends throughout his life.
He loved music and concerts, fishing, decorating for the Holidays, cooking, and working on his recent interest, Lyrics, a company he created and developed. However, his grandchildren, Grayson and Chase, were the true loves of his life. Their time together was limited, but he cherished every moment.
Rick showed great courage as he suffered through many years of debilitating health issues. Many days were unbearable, but he fought fiercely to continue living his life and pursuing his dreams. Laughter became his favorite cure. It was not unusual to see his nurses huddled around his bed for a laugh and a chat - with a requested meal in hand. His "sales" skills never failed him!
Rick will be greatly missed by his family and his many, many friends. We were all blessed to be a part of his circus. His light and laughter will live on through all those lucky enough to cross his path. In the words of his beloved Beatles:
"And when the night is cloudy
There is still a light that shines on me
Shine on til tomorrow. Let it be."
