In Loving Memory of Robert Gerald “Jerry” Woods

Robert Gerald “Jerry” Woods, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, Army veteran, and friend, passed away on October 8, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, hard work, and cherished memories. Born on August 7, 1951, in Catawba County, North Carolina, Jerry lived a life filled with family, friendship, and the simple pleasures that brought him joy.

Jerry was the son of the late Odis Robert Woods and Mary Rose Corneilus Woods. He was a proud graduate of Bunker Hill High School, Class of 1969, and proudly served his country as a United States Army veteran.

Throughout his working years, Jerry dedicated himself to providing for his family and serving his community. He spent time working at General Electric, where he contributed his skills and hard work, and later served as a United States Postal Worker. Through his years of employment, Jerry demonstrated the value of dedication, perseverance, and commitment. His work was an important part of the life he built and the legacy he leaves behind.

Jerry had a passion for automobiles, especially customizing cars and making them uniquely his own. He appreciated the beauty of a well-customized car just as much as he enjoyed looking sharp himself. Known for his love of hats and his ability to look dapper, Jerry carried his own special style and personality wherever he went. Whether he was working on a car or stepping out in one of his favorite hats, Jerry had a way of making a lasting impression.

When he wasn't working on cars, Jerry could often be found enjoying one of his favorite pastimes: fishing. He treasured the opportunity to relax, cast a line, and enjoy the moment. He was also an avid sports fan, especially devoted to the Carolina Panthers, and enjoyed cheering on his favorite team. At home, he could often be found watching cooking shows, discovering new dishes and recipes, or enjoying the timeless stories of classic Westerns.

Above all, Jerry will be remembered for his willingness to help others. He had a generous spirit and a heart for people, always ready to lend a helping hand when someone was in need. His kindness, individuality, and love for those around him left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Whether sharing a conversation, enjoying a favorite show, talking about cars, or simply spending time with loved ones, Jerry created memories that will be treasured for years to come.

Jerry's greatest legacy lives on through his family. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, John Corpening, and daughter-in-law, Chanda; his daughter, Winona James, and son-in-law, Otis; his grandchildren, Jonathan Corpening and Deztinee Allen; his sister, Peggie Jo Woods Coulter; his brother, Tony Neil Woods, and sister-in-law, Beverli; his beloved aunt, Marcine Simpson; his uncles, Johnny Harris and Christopher Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He will also be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, including Aaron Mayhew, Jerry Kevin Coulter, Dexter Connor, Bradley Woods, Monique McAllister, Carmen Flowers Slater, and Alonda Woods, along with the many other family members and friends whose lives he touched.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Odis Robert Woods and Mary Rose Corneilus Woods, and his sister, Wanda Sue Woods Flowers.

Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the memories Jerry leaves behind will continue to bring comfort, smiles, and warmth to those who loved him. He will be remembered for his years of hard work, his service to his country, his love of cars, his fishing adventures, his loyalty to the Carolina Panthers, his enjoyment of cooking shows and classic Westerns, his sharp style, and, most importantly, his willingness to help others.

Robert Gerald “Jerry” Woods lived a life that touched many hearts. His presence will be deeply missed, but the lessons he taught, the kindness he showed, and the memories he created will remain with his family and friends for generations to come.

His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love a lasting legacy.

Rest peacefully, Jerry. Your work here is done, your legacy lives on, and you will forever be loved and remembered.
