Russell Thomas McNeill, 81, of Vale, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born September 28, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the son of Lewis Archie McNeill and Hazel McNeill.
Russell proudly served his country in the United States Army before dedicating many years to law enforcement. He was a former Assistant Chief with the Woodmore Colorado Police Department and also served as a Deputy with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Outside of his professional life, Russell enjoyed the simple things. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening, and was known by those close to him as a great cook.
He is survived by his daughter, Jamie L. McNeill of Beavercreek, OR; his step-daughter, Meghan Moretz of Claremont, NC; his brothers, Rodney McNeill (Amanda) of Prophetstown, IL, Rev. Dr. Ronald McNeill, and Daniel Fesnick (Brenda) of Sidnaw, MI; and his nephews, Brandon McNeill and John Fesnick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Hazel McNeill.
