Ruth Ellen Eldridge Proffitt

Ruth Ellen Eldridge Proffitt, 75, of Hickory passed away Friday, August 1, 2025, at Carolina Caring Catawba Valley Hospice House. Born November 10th, 1949, she was the daughter of the late James Jackson Eldridge and Lena Katherine Belcher Eldridge. She was a devoted member of the Christian group The Gospel Trio, where she loved to sing and share her faith through music. A proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren—always ready to babysit, spoil them with love, and make lasting memories.

She is survived by three sons Wayne and Gary Pox of Statesville, NC, and Donnie Pox of Hickory, NC; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband William Proffitt; a sister Mary Richardson; three brothers Earl, Eugene, and Alvin Eldridge; and two grandchildren.

A service officiated by Pastor Mike Davis will be held at 5:00PM on Friday August 8th, 2025 at The Barn on Rockridge, 2620 Mathis Church Rd., Catawba, NC 28609. Following the service, a celebration dinner will be held at Golden Corral, 1053 Lenoir Rhyne Blvd SE, Hickory, NC 28602.
