Scott Jerome Locklear

Scott Jerome Locklear, 56, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born on April 9, 1969, in Hickory, North Carolina.

Scott graduated from Hickory High School in 1987 and went on to build a dedicated career as a talented furniture trimmer. A true jack-of-all-trades, Scott had a remarkable ability to master anything he set his mind to – whether it was painting, plumbing, planting flowers and trees, or detailing vehicles. His hands were gifted and blessed all he touched.

Scott was a man of simple joys. He found excitement in NHRA racing, peace in spending time at his favorite fishing hole, and a daily thrill in playing scratch-off lottery tickets. His love for these pastimes reflected his vibrant spirit and appreciation for life’s everyday pleasures.

Scott was a beloved son, family member, and friend whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and kindness to all who knew him. His life was marked by strength, resilience, grace, and a deep commitment to those he loved. He enjoyed telling everyone about the love and pride he held for his family and friends. Scott never met a stranger and would meet someone new everywhere he went. He could easily draw new friends into a conversation regarding any topic - from fishing to the love and grace of Jesus. His legacy will live on through each kindhearted encounter with a stranger and loving recollections of family and friends. These memories will forever be his gifts to us.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Barbara Payne Locklear; his sister, Heather Locklear; his brother, Chad Locklear (Crystal); his niece, Aubrey Locklear; and his nephew, Finn Locklear, all of Hickory, NC. He also leaves behind a large extended family and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerome Locklear.

A receiving of friends and family will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Winkler’s Grove Baptist Church, 3320 Ninth Ave Drive NW, Hickory, NC, 28601. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM.
