Stanley Roy McRae

Stanley Roy McRae, 65, of Conover, passed away Monday, October 13, 2025, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born August 12, 1960, in New York, to Stanley Roy McRae and Gladys McRae.

Stanley was raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Commerce High School. He began his career in the U.S. Navy, taking pride in serving his country with honor and dedication. Following his military service, Stanley worked as a Youth Development Counselor, where his guidance, patience, and compassion made a lasting impact on countless young lives.

A true sports enthusiast, Stanley had a lifelong love for basketball. Known by many as a “basketball guru,” his passion for the game was matched only by his commitment to sharing his knowledge and inspiring others.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sherry McRae of the home; his children, Retricia McClure, D'etta Flowers, and David Fleming; his mother-in-law, Lelia; his grandchildren, Luqman, Akasha, Drévon, Quynh, Destiny, and Emoni; his great-grandchildren, Layla, Sylvi, Ma'kilu Lucas, and another on the way, Asani; his brothers; his sisters; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and childhood friends, all whom he adored immensely.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Gladys and Stanley McRae.
